Awaken the Spirits 2021
The year of cons is BACK BABY! (sorta). After the weird year of 2020 I was itching to attend another Con… Thankfully, the wonderful folks over at Midsummer Scream put together this awesome event and I was able to attend both days because how could I not?! Everyone was masked up, socially distanced and most importantly, so cool and welcoming which was great to see. I should’ve never underestimated Horror fans and their love for safety ;)
Day 1
The convention center was packed with vendors, cosplayers, photo-ops, questionable food and that oh so familiar smell of B.O… I was home! Since it had been over a year since I picked up my camera or even been at an event where there would be 100’s of people I was a bit worried about how I’d adjust. Surprisingly, I had no issue! It felt like a year hadn’t passed and I was shooting cons like normal, all was good in the world :)
Day 2
Sundays at a con are usually pretty relaxed and dead. Cosplayers aren’t in abundance and vendors are sold out of hot ticket items or starting to close up shop early. But surprise surprise Sunday was busier than Saturday! Typically I use Sundays as a way to shop, get photos of cool vendors or props I might’ve missed on Saturday and try to find a cosplayer or two… Needless to say I clocked in around 18,000 steps on both days so I was TIRED but the photos I got were so worth it!
Every event I attend Arts Sideshow always seems to follow and I’m not complaining! They have great props they’ve collected over the years and their new prop museum is opening up in Montclair (TBD) I’m excited to check it out and see what else they have to offer!
